Rutgers Humans of Residence Life
In November 2016, Rutgers’ Department of Residence Life launched a student spotlight campaign styled after the popular Humans of New York series. Highlighting the diversity of one of nation’s largest housing operations, the initiative also helped give prospective students, alumni, friends and family, an inside glimpse into life on campus.
In addition to being published on residence life’s Facebook account, student stories were promoted and archived on a departmental micro-site. Students were also given the opportunity to take over residence life’s Instagram account during the week they were featured. Working on the project since its inception, I was responsible for conducting student interviews, photography, and copyediting.
Placing second nationally in the social media campaign category at the Association of College and University Housing Officers-International’s (ACUHO-I) 2017 Marketing Showcase, Humans features consistently ranked among the department’s most engaged posts, helping residence life increase its following by over 25% on Facebook and 60% on Instagram.
